CEREMONY AT THE LAKE VYRNWY HOTEL NORTH WALES

The event was masterminded by Rob Evans of  Hengoed near Oswestry who began his research a year ago and decided that a painting in the form of a pencil drawing would be a fitting tribute to the men who died and this would hang  in the Lake Vyrnwy Hotel as a permanent Memorial. He sought relatives by writing to newspapers and having the story broadcast on local radio and researched the circumstances of the accident with the assistance of Chris Pointon of the RAF Lichfield Association.

Over 60 people attended the Ceremony which included relatives of the Crew and local people who lived in the area in May 1943. The painting was unveiled by Chris Pointon who spoke about the role of 27 O.T.U followed by a dedication given by the Revd. Dick Jones B.E.M. A Guard of Honour was provided by ATC Cadets of  No 2364 (Welshpool) Sqdn and the event was concluded by a flypast of a Tornado from RAF Lossiemouth.

We would also like to thank the Management and Staff of the Lake Vyrnwy Hotel who laid on a free buffet and use of the Tavern Room for the Ceremony - The RAF Liaison Office in Welshpool and the Crew of the Tornado from Lossiemouth who arrived to the second despite low cloud.
