On the evening of 14th January 1945 Wellington X3465 BB-H F/O Kevin Cranley Pilot took off from Church Broughton for a Cross Country over the North Sea. The aircraft was attacked by a German night fighter and on its return most of the UK was fogbound so an emergency landing at Wymeswold in Leicestershire was attempted. At 23.58 the aircraft crashed close to the airfield and caught fire, Jack Hann and Kevin Cranley were unconcious in the burning plane and were rescued by Jim Reuter but Eric Peace was killed and is buried at Oxford (Botley) Cemetery. The remainder of the Crew recovered from their injuries and all survived the War.
